Taking the art of our handmade guitars to another level

handmade guitar with custom brass hardware

Sharing some photos of some new custom guitar hardware from the workshop.

Got another order for one of our lightweight pine Spirit of the Wind guitar
and this time I’ve decided to create different guitar hardware.

Using the ancient lost wax technique I’m creating these unique pieces of hardware from bell brass.

Just like the Thunder Child custom guitar with the automotive classic design reference which can be seen especially on the custom hardware design; I’ve decided to create new brass hardware and to give it a little “Streamline” treatment. “Streamline Moderne” for those who are not familiar with this term was an international style of design that emerged in the 1930s.

It was heavily inspired by aerodynamic design, therefore, you can find curving forms, long horizontal lines, an even nautical vessel design influences.

In industrial design, it was used by the famous Raymond Loewy,
who was known as The Man Who Shaped America, The Father of Streamlining.
Loewy designed the Greyhound Scenicruiser bus, the Pennsylvania Railroad GG1, and S-1 locomotives, Coca-Cola vending machines, the Lucky Strike package, Coldspot refrigerators, the classic and iconic Studebaker Champion and even the Air Force One livery among others.

The Spirit of the Wind handmade guitar hardware incorporates these industrial classic design features.
The tailpiece is a 30s radiator grill cover while the brass toggle switch
design was influenced by classic car hood ornaments.
Next, I will go into the creative process itself.
Stay tuned….
